Outdoor Edge 3.5″ RazorPro Folding Knife Review

Dan Moresi

First off, I have to say that I have owned just about every knife brand on the market at one point or another. I have also owned Outdoor Edge products in the past and was very happy with the quality, which is why I was excited to give the RazorPro a try. I own the WildPak from Outdoor Edge and used it for about 2 years. It is a fantastic kit and I like that it has a specific knife for each part of the process of getting your deer from the field to the table.

However, I consider myself as being somewhat of a minimalist when it comes to hunting and the only downside I saw with the WildPak was the fact that I had to have the entire kit with me (or sitting in my truck) when hunting. So when I got the opportunity to use the RazorPro, I was extremely excited to be able to have one knife on me at all times when in the field.

Outdoor Edge 3.5″ RazorPro Folding Knife

The RazorPro folding hunting knife from Outdoor Edge is a great dual-purpose knife for hunters. It features a standard knife blade on one side and a gutting blade on the other. You can change blades easily so you never have to sharpen again, and this package comes with 6 standard blades total.

  • Bright orange, non-slip grip handle
  • Weighs 8.3 oz.

Outdoor Edge RazorPro Folding Knife | Standard Blades

The RazorPro is a 2-in-1 replaceable blade foldable knife with a fixed gut hook on the backside of the knife. Over the last few years, I have become a huge fan of replaceable blade knives. I am in no way a “blade-sharpening” expert, so the fact that I can simply do what I need to do and then throw away the blade and put a brand new one on is a huge benefit to me. A couple of the downsides I have run into with the other replaceable blade knives I have owned is how thin and flimsy the blades are, and removing and installing new blades is a struggle, which I will explain a little bit more.

The thought of potentially breaking a blade while field dressing a deer always bothered me. The blade on the RazorPro seems to be thicker and more durable, being 0.6 mm and 420J2 SS material. The way the blade installs is also an improvement in my opinion. Rather than having to use pliers or something to mount the blade on the knife, which I have been doing with my other replaceable blade knives, you simply need to slide the blade in the receiver and the mechanical device on the knife automatically locks it in place. To remove the blade is just as easy. Press the mechanical locking button and pull the blade out. This is a big improvement to me in case you would need to replace a blade on the fly with no pliers available.

The only downside I can see with this design is that now you are adding mechanical components to the knife, which have the possibility to break. This would mean the blade would not lock in place. Personally, I do not find this to be a big issue and have not had an issue with it at all using it this past deer hunting season.

Outdoor Edge RazorPro Folding Knife | Gutting Blade

The gut hook on the knife is awesome! I recently helped with a Veteran’s hunt and used the gut hook multiple times. Every time it worked perfectly. The blade is slightly curved and has a dull end to prevent the possibility of damaging the insides of an animal while field dressing. This leads to an extremely clean field dressing process. I cannot express enough how much I like the gut hook. It is a fixed blade, so at some point or another, it will likely need to be sharpened. The blades are solid both in the open and closed positions.

Other Features of the Outdoor Edge RazorPro Folding Knife

The knife comes with a holder for a belt. I put the holder on my Badlands Superday pack and it works great. That way, I know the knife is with me at all times while I am hunting. There is a section in the holder where additional replaceable blade packages can be added in case a blade needs to be replaced in the field. The blade packaging is phenomenal. They are in a plastic airtight packaging that eliminates the possibility of the blade puncturing through. I have had issues with this in the past with other replaceable blade manufacturers where the tip of the blade would puncture through the blade packaging.

The handle color of the knife is a light orange (which I call pumpkin orange) and definitely helps reduce the possibility of losing it if dropped in the woods. I own knives with camo-colored handles and black handles and have spent many frustrating moments trying to locate a knife after I set it down or dropped it.

The knife itself feels very good when holding it, and due to having an additional gut hook, it is a little bit thicker in the hand, which I personally like. I did use the knife for deboning and did not find it to be the best option. Something more like a filet knife would be a better option for deboning.
