If you enjoy outdoor pursuits, part of the fun is retelling the stories over time. What better way is there to relive a hunt or adventure than by watching footage from it? The Tactacam 5.0 is one of the newest point-of-view (POV) action cameras made by Tactacam. The primary idea of this camera is that it is able to film your hunt from your perspective, providing footage of what you see. I tried it out and provide some of my thoughts below.

Tactacam 5.0 Features
The nice thing about the Tactacam 5.0 is that you can adjust the settings to film up to 8x zoom. Many other action cams provide primarily a wide-angle/fisheye view that can be adjusted digitally with editing, but it just makes the footage seem really far away. This action camera provides a true up to 8x zoom to bring things closer. It films videos in 4K resolution, but you can adjust that as well.
Another nice aspect of the Tactacam 5.0 is that it has multiple mounting options. Tactacam makes a barrel mount that can be easily mounted to your rifle or shotgun barrel, a picatinny rail mount, and a bow stabilizer mount. A universal adapter is also available that makes it easy to use your Tactacam 5.0 with any of the other action camera mounts available out there.
Further, the camera is a good size that makes it easy to store, carry, and mount to your firearm, bow, or wherever else you want to mount it. It’s also lightweight, so it doesn’t feel cumbersome to have mounted or affect your shooting form. Check out the best turkey hunting shotgun on the market.

Tactacam 5.0 Improvements
The Tactacam 5.0 camera is a great option for POV filming, but there are a few things that I think could be improved.
First of all, the microphone isn’t all that great. It is one tiny hole on the body of the camera. I actually accidentally covered it up one time with the barrel mount, and it didn’t record anything. Even when it wasn’t covered, it didn’t pick up sound with near the clarity that I would want.
In low light conditions, the Tactacam 5.0 doesn’t have the best clarity. Granted, most cameras don’t have excellent picture quality in low light. But just know that if you take a shot first thing in the morning or in the evening, it may not be as clear as you’d like.
In terms of the construction of the device, the back cap can be a little difficult to take off and put back on. Just make sure you have the lock switched to unlock before you try to move it, and press in.
One final thing is that the camera is pretty particular about the micro SD card you use. Make sure it’s a U3 high-quality card so it can record in 4K and not give you jumpy videos. The other aspect of the card is that fairly often you will want to clear the pictures and video off and reformat the card. If you fail to reformat it frequently enough, it will freeze up and drive you crazy. This can happen with SD cards in trail cameras and other equipment too, but it would be nice if a firmware update could keep this from happening.

Tactacam 5.0 Summary
Overall, we’ve definitely enjoyed having the Tactacam 5.0 as a solid option for POV filming. We do have to get a little better at keeping the camera pointed at the game after a shot is taken, but I think that just takes practice on our part!
