The Craziest Hunting Items Ever Sold

Camron Stover

The hunting industry is packed full of innovative technology and creativity to enhance the hunting experience.  Each year, new products hit the market that helps us push our hunting expertise and skillset to the next level.  Sometimes it a technological advancement that makes our gear stronger, lighter, faster, quieter, or more efficient.

Then again sometimes a product hits the market and we all stop and scratch our heads as we walk by it in the local sporting goods store.  Here are some of the weirdest hunting-related items that have ever been sold.

can you buy fake deer corn

AVERY 12 Pack of Field Corn Decoys

Is baiting outlawed in your state?  Then I have the solution for you, fake corn!  Yes, Avery (a popular waterfowl brand) sells a 12 pack of plastic corn decoys.  Here’s their marketing strategy behind this product.

Ducks and geese love corn. Late in the season, most fields have been picked clean and no food can be seen. Field Corn solves that problem. These plastic ears of corn are spotted by wary waterfowl scattered among the decoys, replicating a feeding flock.

Features:

  • Indestructible polyethylene
  • Molded in ripe corn color
  • String attachment loop
  • 12 Pack

This is one of the craziest products that I’ve ever seen.

Hunter’s Specialties – Kruncher Call

The “Acorn Kruncher” is one of the most laughed and talked about hunting gimmicks to ever hit the market.  This call was designed to mimic the sounds of deer eating acorns and calm them down or lure them to your treestand location.  I can’t imagine anyone actually buying this thing but I can recall seeing them on Walmart shelves several years ago.  Below is their marketing strategy:

A revolutionary call that calms nearly all deer in your surrounding area. The call produces feeding sounds, keeping any weary deer calm and relaxed. The Kruncher is even proven to calm deer immediately after being spooked. Perfect to use all season long, you’ll be happy to have this amazing tool at your disposal.

best way to carry extra shotgun shells

Forearm Shotgun Ammo Sleeve

How many shotgun shells do you need that you need to carry extras on your forearm?  This seems like it would create unnecessary weight on your arms when shouldering your weapon, not to mention that there are simpler, quicker, and easier methods to carry your ammo.

field dressing tools

Hunters Specialties Butt Out Tool

This gem from Hunters Specialities is supposed to aid in the game cleaning process but help you remove a certain part of the digestive system with ease.  To be honest, this is one of the only products that I would recommend purchasing from this list as it actually has a valid use in the field.

exploding broadheads

Bow-Mag .38 / .357 Magnum Arrowheads

This product from Bow-Mag is an explosive arrowhead that holds a .38 or .357 magnum bullet and it fires once your arrow hits its target.  Pause for a minute to process this for a minute.  This product is considered illegal in many states, so don’t think for a second that you can shoot these exploding broadheads during archery season.  But even if you could, why would you?  They’re 450 grains and a broadhead is going to be just as effective.

ugliest hunting decoy ever made

Easy Doe Inflatable Deer Decoy with Remote Control Tail

They say a picture says a thousand words but this one leaves me speechless.  Looking at this “decoy” makes me wonder who on earth would think this thing looks like a deer?  Maybe it’s the remote control tail that will do the trick of the fact that it’s inflatable!  This has to be one of the worst decoys ever made.

weird hunting products

Hunting Buddy

I take back what I said about the Easy Doe Inflatable Decoy being the worst decoy that I’ve ever seen.  The “Hunting Buddy” is an inflatable person that you can leave in your treestand or ground blind to allow the wildlife to get used to something or someone being there.  I’ve heard of people using inflatable dummies in the carpool lane to get to work quicker, but for hunting?  That’s a new one.

Still Steamin’ Buck Semen

Chances are, you’ve used buck or doe urine to increase your chances of getting a buck’s attention.  The deer urine industry is HUGE but one product sticks out from the rest and that’s Still Steamin’ Buck Semen.  I’m going to admit that I was guilty of purchasing this product from the now-closed down Gander Mountain back in the day.  I never used it, so I can’t vouge for its effectiveness, but it’s certainly a product that will stop you in your tracks while walking through your local hunting store.
