Hawke Endurance 30 WA SF 4-16×50 Riflescope Review

Adrian Jessen

You may not be as familiar with Hawke Optics as some other brands such as Vortex, Bushnell, or Leupold.  If not, you’re in for a treat!  Hawke Optics have a smaller presence in the United States, but its origins come from the United Kingdom, so don’t be alarmed when you see a metric set of figures used to describe each product.  Most retailers have translated into measurements you’re probably more familiar with.   Hawke Optics products can be found in more than 60 countries worldwide.

A few months ago, I was able to put a Hawke Endurance 30 WA SF 4-16×50 on my CVA Cascade .308 and give it a good test. This scope and rifle combination is deadly – literally. In fact, I was able to take a nice buck with it this past season from a little over 100 yards.

Hawke Endurance 30 WA SF 4-16×50 Likes

I have quite a few things to say about what I like about the Hawke Endurance scope. It has a 30mm tube, so the rings are easy to find. The eye relief is great – right at four inches – so no matter what caliber rifle you have it on, you shouldn’t have to worry about whacking yourself in the eye.  This version is the .223/.308, and the .308 is perfect for large game.

One thing I didn’t see Hawke Optics talk about much on their website, but I would like to point out, is that I’m very impressed with the clarity of the Hawke Endurance scope. I’ve shot it out to 600 yards and was able to see the target clearly, even on a very hot day with plenty of heat mirage. At the distances I typically hunt, which is well within 200 yards, the picture is very clear.

My absolute favorite part of the version of this scope that I got is that it has the LR Dot reticle markings. Maybe I am behind the times, but a couple of years ago I discovered that it was possible to get an illuminated reticle on a rifle scope. I absolutely LOVE having an illuminated reticle on my rifle scope. For me, having that illuminated red dot makes it so much easier for me to focus on what I need to and just put the dot on my aiming point. I get pretty excited when I’m hunting, so I like to minimize the things that can lead to confusion.

The reticle also has ballistic markers so you know where to aim at 200, 300, and 400 yards. I tried it out, and have been pretty doggone close at 200 and 300 yards.

And, one final thing I like about the Hawke Endurance scope is that it comes with a sun shade so you can help block out that early morning or late evening light.

Features:  Hawke Endurance 30 WA SF 4-16×50

The Hawke 4-16×50 Endurance 30 WA SF Riflescope combines a 4-16x zoom with a wide 50mm objective in a compact and lightweight body to deliver a versatile scope for precision and distance hunting in low light. Hawke scopes feature many characteristics of the Endurance series such as bright and clear fully multi-coated optics, a strong and durable one-piece 30mm main tube, a 15-yard minimum parallax-free range, and a fast-focus eyepiece while also introducing improvements in the form of an extended 31.2-7.8′ (at 100 yards) field of view, 75 MOA windage and elevation ranges, and an increased number of layers of coatings (18).

At the core of the optical system is the second focal plane LRC (Long Range Centerfire) illuminated reticle, defined by three hollow tapered posts, a thin crosshair, and a cascading illuminated red set of ballistic stadia. The reticle draws power from the included CR2032 battery, has six brightness levels, and provides a precise aiming reference.

Hawke Endurance 30 WA SF 4-16×50 Improvements

The only thing I haven’t quite figured out is the difference in point of impact changes with various magnification settings.  For instance, the ballistic data works correctly when zoomed to 10 power, but it isn’t exactly great at higher magnifications. I would definitely like to be able to zoom in to the maximum magnification of 16 power and know that I’m still going to hit where I’m aiming. Other than that, I’ve been very pleased and this issue hasn’t slowed me down from carrying it to the field.
