It seems like you never have a first-aid kit when you need it until now. Pick up a MyMedic Sidekick first aid kit for your next adventure. This small first aid is perfect for backcountry hunting or throwing into your ATV or UTV. Heck, mine tucks away nicely on my QuietKat Apex too!
The best hunters I know make safety a priority when planning their next hunting adventure. We take the time to inspect our treestand before jumping in it and wear safety harnesses while in the tree, so why not keep a first-aid nearby for when the hunt throws you a curveball? Do you remember when Tim Wells (The Slock Master) speared himself in the thigh and nearly killed himself in Africa? Viewer discretion is advised for this video.

Lightweight and Compact First Aid Kit
A compact and lightweight kit is a necessity for hunters that are traveling into the backcountry. I hope it’s something you never have to use, but it’s always a good idea to have a first-aid kit nearby. Many hunters elect to save weight and space and leave their first-aid kit in the truck but that’s a terrible idea. Instead of hoping that you won’t need it, find one small enough like the MyMedic Sidekick, and throw it in your pack.
The MyMedic Sidekick First Aid Kit is advertised to weigh only 14.2 ounces. Dimensions are 5.5 x 7.5 x 1 inch. There’s some wasted space in the different carrying options that the bag offers, which increases the weight slightly. You’ll find a strap large enough to throw over your shoulder and a Molle system to attach it to your belt or pack. The bag is definitely sturdy and well-made. The main compartment zipper is also robust, and it seems that both the case and the zipper should be able to withstand a significant amount of abuse without failing. To save weight, you could cut the extra straps and molle system off and it would make a big difference probably.

MyMedic Sidekick First Aid Kit Contents
While the bag for this kit is top-notch, what really distinguishes a first aid kit, especially one utilized in the backcountry, is what’s inside. My Changes to the Kit
I added a few items to my kit, including a knife, AAA batteries, athletic tape, gauze, tweezers, a pen, and paper. Also, if you can find a small flashlight or headlamp, I’d recommend adding it as well. Just remember every item that you add increases the weight. Tweezers are helpful when removing splinters, briers, and stingers. You can also add lighter or waterproof matches. There’s not a lot of spare room, but there’s enough. Backpacking First Aid Kit Organization
Perhaps what impresses me most about the MyMedic Sidekick First Aid Kit is the way the items are organized. On backcountry hunts, you need a kit that provides quick and easy access to necessary supplies when needed in a hurry. The Sidekick is not just a dump-pouch. It’s a well-thought-out system. Each type of product is color-coordinated and individually wrapped, which allows the items to be easily identified in a hurry.
The organization of the contents really impressed me when I first unzipped the kit. I felt like it would be hard to put the pieces back together again but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to reassemble the contents of the pouch after use/inspection. Molle-compatible straps on the pouch allow for quick and convenient access within or on a pack. After all, efficiency in an emergency can be the difference between life and death.

MyMedic Sidekick First Aid Kit Review Summary
My initial impression of the MyMedic Sidekick First Aid Kit is that it’s more bag than first-aid kit. I love the way the contents are labeled and organized in the bag, but this is a bare necessities first-aid kit. As someone that tends to be overprepared, I found myself needing to add items to the kit. Also, for my application (a hunter that just wants to throw the first-aid kit into my pack, I cut off a lot of the straps and removed the back velcro molle and buckle straps. This greatly reduced the size of the first-aid kit and weight. The items that I added to the kit made up for the weight loss though. MyMedic makes some great first-aid kits, but this one didn’t fit my needs as well as the others. In my opinion, the bag is overly-engineered and the contents could be increased slightly.
