Dead End Game Calls Review

Ryan Bailey

When I first met the folks from Dead End Game Calls, it was a no brainer to support them. When I say they are fine people, that’s because it is truly hard to put into words how great they actually are.  I have met many people in the outdoor industry and there are times when you meet people that you instantly connect with and have respect for.

Mitchell Johnston, the owner of the company, and his family are just that; people you can relate to and have tons of respect for.  Mitchell is a very successful competitive caller but even so is a very humble man that is down to earth and will carry on a conversation with anyone that wants to talk hunting.  Dead End isn’t shy about their faith in Christ and make a point to engage in conversation with the community about the gospel.  All of these great things AND they make great calls!!  Below I’ll cover some of my favorites from them.

Plenty of Options

In this particular article, we will be discussing turkey diaphragm calls, but that’s not the end of what Dead End Game Calls has to offer.  They offer diaphragm calls, pot calls, box calls, and locator calls in the turkey call business, but they also offer other calls such as deer grunts, waterfowl calls, and even several scent elimination products!  No matter what you’re looking for, I highly recommend taking a look at their website: www.deadendgamecalls.com

Resumes that Impress

Dead End Game Calls has quite a decorated calling staff.  Their owner, Mitchell Johnston, won the NWTF Grand National Senior Open in 2010 and has been very successful in state contests for years!  Jon Miller, another competitive caller, has seen a lot of success in the North Carolina State Calling Contests.  Jesse Martin, who joined the Dead End Team in 2022, has also seen tons of success on the calling stage.  Martin has a NWTF Grand National Senior Open win of his own and also has been the top caller at the state level in the state of Kentucky for quite some time.  Along with these three, Dead End’s callers have seen a lot of success at the youth level with callers Matthew and Tyler Presley.  All of these guys have their own Signature Series calls available for purchase.  We will cover some of them below.

Mitchell Johnston Signature Series

The Mitchell Johnston Signature Series is a 3-reed batwing style call that will produce a high front end but end with a raspy back end.  The call is very easy to run and requires very little air to produce all types of turkey vocabulary.  It is personally one of my favorite offerings from Dead End and it is always in my vest.

Jon Miller Signature Series

The Jon Miller Signature Series is another 3-reed call, but with a combo cut. It will produce the yelps of an old boss hen and is great for cutting, plain yelps, excited yelps, and gobbling.

Jesse Martin Signature Series

New for 2022 is the Jesse Martin Signature Series.  It is a 3-reed ghost cut call that is capable of producing the entire array of hen turkey vocalizations.  From kee-kees to cutting and yelping, this call can do it all!  I am very excited to try this call out for the 2022 season and beyond!

Matthew Presley Signature Series

The Matthew Presley Signature Series is my personal number one favorite call and my go-to when I’m in the woods.  It is also a 3-reed batwing call and produces clear front-end notes, but it is capable of getting raspy back-end notes.  It is capable of producing all sounds in the turkey vocabulary.  It has quickly become my favorite call in my vest and has been deadly on some longbeards!  I find it to be super easy to use and for me it takes very little air pressure.

Roadkill Series

Other offerings from Dead End Game Calls are the Roadkill Series.  The Roadkill Series includes the Roadkill Batwing 3, the Roadkill Batwing 2 (2-reed call), the Roadkill Split V, the Roadkill Ghost Cut, and the Roadkill Shipwreck.  The Roadkill Batwing 2 is also one of my favorites that always has a place in my vest!

Rave Reviews

Since I started using Dead End Game Calls diaphragm calls, I’ve recommended them to tons of turkey hunters that are local to me.  For all the ones who have ordered them and tried them, the thing I’m told time and time again is how impressed they are with how easy to use they are.  From guys that have never been able to use diaphragm calls to veteran turkey hunters that have been using mouth calls for years, they all come back and tell me that the Dead End Game Calls are some of the easiest that they have ever used.

PROS:

  • Lots of versatile calls available
  • Good vocalization for diaphragm calls
  • Trustworthy people and company

CONS:

  • Above average price point

Conclusion

I highly recommend giving these calls a try for yourself.  Also take a look at all the other offerings that they have from pot calls, locator calls, and box calls to waterfowl calls, deer calls, and even some great looking apparel!  You can check out all their offerings at www.deadendgamecalls.com.
