Gaiters are an essential accessory for active hunters, whether chasing elk in the steep vertical terrain in the Rocky Mountains or turkeys in spring. Quality gaiters, such as the KUIU Kutana Storm Gaiter are designed to keep dirt, rocks, sticks, and other debris out of your boots or early-season shoes. Gaiters also protect your pant legs, keeping them clean, dry, and protected from rocks, sticks, and thorns.
The Kutana Gaiter feels rugged, plain, and simple. You can feel the quality and attention to detail upon inspection. Additionally, they have a great length that allows them to sit high on the calf. Determining the appropriate side for each gaiter is simple, just look for the logo and it will always be on the outside. When it comes to quality, very few brands are comparable to KUIU, so my expectations are high for these gaiters.

In the Field
Wearing these has been very enjoyable. I basically forgot they were strapped to my legs. At 5’10” with an athletic build I purchased the XL size. I’d say I have medium size calves, so I did need to use the cinch closure at the top of the gaiter. I decided on the XL size to allow me to wear them with bulkier pants later in the season. The gaiters did what they were supposed to do, keep my feet dry and debris out of my boots.
Although considered ultralight, the Kutana gaiters seem very tough for the weight. At only four ounces each, you will forget you’re wearing them. I can’t say I’ve used them in harsh environments but the fit and finish seem to be top notch. If your main concern is to keep your feet dry and debris out of your boots I’m confident you’ll be pleased with these, because they’ve exceeded my expectations. The prices of these gaiters are comparable to most high-end brands, but with KUIU’s great warranty, makes it easier to justify. Matt Poissant grew up in the Green Mountain State of Vermont. Here he was able to learn the fundamentals of deer hunting from his father. That introduction to deer hunting turned into a true passion once his athletic days were over. Matt now archery hunts all over the country and enjoys the process of going to new places and chasing mature whitetails. In addition to hunting, he enjoys bass fishing, sports, whiskey, and trying new restaurants
