Women’s Sitka Gear – The Best Hunting Clothing for the Female Hunter

Early Season Sitka Gear Guide – Temp 65F or Greater
It can be difficult to find the perfect clothing options for warm-weather hunts. Choosing the right clothing that keeps you cool by wicking moisture away from your body is crucial to staying comfortable in 70-degree weather. You can begin by utilizing the Lightweight/Midweight crew that will provide critical moisture wicking and comfort. (Available in all camouflage patterns)
Whitetail Hunting
The Equinox pants are perfect early season. The Equinox pants are lightweight, yet tough as nails. The Equinox pants are built with stretch woven polyester for enhanced durability, along with being very breathable, the Equinox pants are my go-to for warm-weather hunts. Wait until you climb into your treestand or saddle before throwing on the Celsius Midi Vest if you even need it at all.
Big Game Hunting
Similar to the Equinox pants for whitetail hunting, the Ascent pants are perfect for big game hunting in the west or turkey hunting during the spring in the east. The Ascent pants are slightly lighter and stretchier and built for the more active climate of big game hunting. Dressing in layers will allow you to shed clothing as temperatures increase or decrease throughout the day. Also, if you’re going on a multi-day backcountry hunt, I’d recommend the merino baselayers, you’ll stink less.
Mid-Season Sitka Gear Guide- Temp: 65F to 40F
When the temperature begins to drop after early-season the importance of layers becomes clear. With fluctuating weather conditions, it’s likely you may need to start incorporating additional layers and adjust as conditions change throughout your hunt. One important thing to consider is the difference between merino and synthetic. Merino naturally fights body odors and is typically warmer in comparison to a synthetic item of the same weight. Synthetic clothing tends to be more durable and more efficient at wicking away moisture but can retain body odors more than merino.
Whitetail
On a typical day, temperatures are lower around dawn and dusk, so dressing in layers allows me to stay warm throughout the hunt. As temperatures rise, I may remove a layer or two if needed. The first addition to my setup as temperatures drop is the Fanatic Hoody. This insulated hoody provides warmth that can be worn throughout the entire season. The hood itself is insulated, along with a breathable pull-up face mask and built-in hand mitts.
If you need extra layers besides the Fanatic Hoody you have two options: the Celsius Midi Vest or the Celsius Jacket. The Celsius Midi Vest will provide you with that extra layer of insulation in the core while minimizing bulk on your arms, which is perfect for bow hunting. However, the Celsius Jacket is that must-have puffer jacket that’s built with Sitka’s Primaloft insulation.
Big Game
When it comes to Big Game hunting, you have a couple more options in the Sub Alpine pattern. The first is a new Timberline Pants (which also comes in the popular gray solid color option also). These are my favorite pants that Sitka offers, a combination of comfort and durability, with a great fit. These pants have removable knee pads and even protective support on your seat.
The Big Game line also features a softshell, windproof jacket in the Jetstream. Similar to the Celsius jacket you can get the Kelvin Active jacket in Sub Alpine, however, the Kelvin Active jacket is slightly warmer and more breathable. In addition to the Kelvin Active jacket, there is the Kelvin WS Hoody. I carry the Kelvin WS hoody in my backpack for those cold evenings, it is more durable and a lot more windproof than the Kelvin Active.
Waterfowl
Next, we get into the bulk of the waterfowl line, starting with the pant option, the Cadence pants. These pants are incredibly stretchy and very durable. They are thicker than the Equinox/Ascent pants but not as thick as the Timberlines. The Cadence pants are the most fitting of Sitka’s women’s pants. For the early hunts add the Cadence Hoody to the lineup. The Cadence Hoody is similar to the Fanatic Hoody, but it’s equipped with some much-needed water-repellency.
As it gets colder you have a couple more options, the Dakota Vest or the Fahrenheit jacket. The Dakota vest has less insulation than the Celsius Vest, but it has more water protection, which is very important when waterfowl hunting. The Fahrenheit jacket is similar to the Celsius jacket but it’s equipped with better wind protection and it’s slightly warmer, but you’ll sacrifice the additonal water protection.
Late-Season Sitka Gear Guide- Temp: 40F and Below
Sitka Gear’s late-season clothing has been produced to withstand brutal, fluctuating temperatures that are often present during the last few months of the season in most areas of the country. Investing in cold weather clothing will increase your comfort level when the temperature drops, potentially increasing your hunting season.
Whitetail
The Fanatic line has been designed to be near silent while offering unmatchable warmth. The Fanatic bibs have full-length zippers which are a must-have for putting the bibs on over boots, along with easy removal. This is important for long walks to and from your favorite hunting location and provides a quick cool-down if temperatures increase. The Fanatic line is incredibly comfortable with many compartments, including two hand warming pockets. Place the Fanatic jacket on top of the bibs and you will never want to leave the treestand/blind again.
The new Fanatic jacket is windproof and engineered to minimize bulk when drawing back a bow. Both the bibs and the jacket are made from fleece, keep this in mind if choosing to walk in them. If you need even more warmth add in the Fanatic beanie and neck gaiter.
Waterfowl
When temperatures start to drop throw on the perfect combination of the Hudson bibs & jacket. The Hudson line is 100% waterproof and windproof. It’s also equipped with built-in insulation, making this pairing perfect for late-season waterfowl hunting.
When nature calls the Hudson bibs have a rear zipper to help reduce the exposure to the elements while being discrete. There’s no doubt that Sitka listened to the female hunter with this unique design feature. The Hudson jacket has waterproof stretch material on the shoulders to aid in movement while shouldering your gun, along with a catch built into the hood to prevent your line of sight from being obstructed.
